India’s election watchdog has also forbidden the display of posters and related visual material related to the Narendra Modi biopic to be displayed on electronic media till the elections conclude.
Earlier, the film’s trailer had received flak for glorifying Modi to a point that was considered unrealistic by many critics.
Additionally, Indian opposition parties led by the Congress had put up a united front against the release of the film. They had labelled the movie as propaganda by a man who was – in their words – “a flop” and “zero”
The makers of the film had also been panned by veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar for wrongfully using his name in the film’s posters.
India is going to the polls today, i.e. 11th April and the last phase of elections will conclude on 17th May 2019.
