The shocking story of one, Asma Aziz who recently came forward with charges of domestic abuse against her husband has rightly left Pakistan enraged.
Asma’s hair-raising ordeal included being stripped naked in front of domestic help by her husband, beaten and held in strains while he shaved her head and burnt her hair. The culprit in question, Faisal also hung her to the fan and threatened to hang her to death.
Faisal’s “rage” was reported to be a result of Asma’s refusal to dance in front of his friends and employees.
As if the trauma of being humiliated and physically tortured was not enough, Asma was further asked to pay bribe when she went to the police station to file a FIR.
And while most of Pakistan is in rage over this harrowing tale of domestic violence, there are some who could not keep the misogynist in them silent even for the optics.
Take the case of this City 24 reporter for instance, who wanted to know if an apology from Faisal could reignite Asma’s love for him!
Then there are those whose lack of humanity made them want to shame the victim instead of the abuser.
In the wake of Asma Aziz’s domestic violence case, many also questioned those who had condemned Aurat March.
But despite the misogyny of some, it is heartening to see how most Pakistani women and men are coming forward to show solidarity with Asma Aziz.
Mian Faisal along with one accomplice has been taken into police custody and an investigation is underway.
We dearly hope that justice is served and that Asma might one day be able to walk past the scars of such traumatic violence.
