Quaid-i-Azam University Laid Off Its Daily Wagers Amid COVID-19

Daily wagers in Pakistan have been hit hard as a result of COVID-19. While the government has lifted the lockdown to provide relief; Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) administration just fired its daily waged employees for reasons that masses are yet to make sense of.

According to their Associate Professor, Ilhan Niaz the university has also allegedly setup a charity account to provide relief to the sacked employees.

The Associate Professor took to Twitter and shared that the varsity laid off the daily waged employees. He further told that these employees haven’t been paid since March.

QAU was among top 500 of World University Rankings last year. However, the scandal has put the institution in an embarrassing situation.

Raising his voice on behalf of those affected, Ilhan filed a complaint on Prime Minister’s citizen portal.

Quaid-i-Azam University is facing severe online criticism after the news went viral on social media.

Since the university has already taken the semester fee from the students; people wondered why dismissing the vulnerable employees was necessary.

Many believe that in this difficult time, it is inhumane to take such a step.
