The race to produce coronavirus vaccine began as soon as the pandemic took over the world. Despite having several candidates, the world didn’t get any final vaccine to rely on until yesterday when Vladimir Putin approved the first ever COVID19 vaccine.

The Russian President said, “A vaccine against coronavirus has been registered for the first time in the world this morning. I know that it works quite effectively, it forms a stable immunity.”

He also added that one of his daughter had already taken the vaccine after which she had a slightly higher temperature with each dose but claimed that “she feels well now.”

Still, the Russian coronavirus vaccine is somewhat controversial because multiple reports suggest that during the development process quite a few testing phases were skipped.

Sputnik-V, has been developed by the Moscow-based Gamaleya Institute but it has not yet entered phase 3 trials i.e. a crucial phase in the development of a vaccine. In the concerned phase, the vaccine is administered to thousands of people.

Jarbas Barbosa, an assistant director from Pan American Health Organization said that The World Health Organization (WHO) has also not received enough information on the Russian COVID-19 vaccine to evaluate it. WHO then has also cautioned that a potential vaccine should in no way be be developed or allowed for general use while compromising on the safety standards.

Many critics believe that the sudden announcement may be a political move to portray Russia as a global scientific force.
