In what can only be termed as the biggest #MeToo moment for Pakistan, Meesha Shafi accused fellow musician and actor, Ali Zafar of sexual harassment.

Taking to Twitter today, Meesha Shafi stated:
“Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. It is not easy to speak out.. but it is harder to stay silent. My conscience will not allow it anymore #MeToo”
In a detailed post that accompanied her tweet, Shafi shared that Ali Zafar had sexually harassed her in a physical manner on more than one occasion!

We can’t imagine the guts it must have taken Meesha Shafi to come out against an artist who is widely admired across the globe. The decision was perhaps all the more daunting as Meesha Shafi herself is a celebrated musician and it is often believed that women lose out professionally if they choose to confront powerful men for acts of harassment.

We can’t guarantee that there won’t be any backlash (as is often the case when women come out against their harassers), however the powerhouse performer won a whole lot of respect from our end!
As for Ali Zafar, we can’t say this revelation has not left us shocked and heartbroken! If Ali Zafar is capable of sexual harassment, is there any reason to trust a man again?
