Maulana Tariq Jamil on Tuesday apologized for his comment that left many believe that he was blaming women for causing coronavirus outbreak in Pakistan.

Mauana Tariq Jamil took to Twitter clearing his remarks about women.

Maulana’s statement on live TV earned him a huge amount of online criticism with Human Rights Minister, Shireen Mazari, demanding an apology.

In a series of tweets the religious scholar clarified that he did not mean to target any gender but the ills of the society as a whole.

The cleric explained that his motive was to inspire people to focus more on spirituality and not fall prey to worldly desires.

He also added that there was no excuse for hurting or making anyone uncomfortable.

Maulana Tariq Jamil then sincerely apologized to people who were “inadvertently hurt” by his comments.

Shireen Mazari, too, took a step away from her earlier position and thanked Maulana Tariq Jamil for the “clarification.”

Mazari then went on to offer an apology of her own in case her comments came off hurtful to Maulana.

Many Pakistanis have come forward to appreciate Maulana for offering an apology after his remarks offended women.
