Trump just gave the world its first dose of crazy in 2019 when he talked to the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The premier who is notorious for souring US ties with even the closest of its allies, left the world speechless when he took a dig at the Indian PM Modi, the only strategic partner that had not been the victim of Trump’s impulse.

While shedding light on the ample amount of resources, energy and manpower invested by the United States’ in war-torn Afghanistan, Trump mocked his Indian counterpart for overhyping the development work India has done in Afghanistan so far.

Taking a dig at the Indian PM Modi, Trump said, “I mean, I could give you an example where I get along very well with India and Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi, but he’s constantly telling me he built a library in Afghanistan, OK? You know what that is? That’s like five hours of what we spend.” “And we’re supposed to say, ‘Oh, thank you for the library.’ I don’t know who’s using it in Afghanistan, but one of those things,” Trump added.

Following the speech, the video went viral and what fun did the world have at the expense of Trump and India! 😂

For some, the President of a superpower is nothing but a reality show! 😂

Michael Kugelman, the renowned South Asia analyst, seemed a little disappointed and found the statement bizarre.

But then an Indian journalist revealed that there are no libraries built by India in Afghanistan!

Kugelman then had another opinion to share!

The jibe was so unforeseen that it took India a day to process this information and come up with a comeback. Despite taking so much time, Delhi reciprocated with a very dull statement.

Also, the ones who were worshipping Trump before this statement have suddenly taken over Indian Twitter to express their anger over Trump’s dig at the Indian PM Modi.

However, on a very serious note, the mocking has only added to India’s apprehensions that were triggered in the first place when at the end of 2018 ties between the United States and Pakistan moved towards betterment. Any diplomatic solution of Afghanistan is virtually impossible without Pakistan’s cooperation and Trump recognizes this reality now more than ever. This is the reason why despite showing all the outrage against Pakistan last year, Trump has eventually softened his tone and expressed his desire for “great ties” between the two countries.

While this is good news for Pakistan, the changing dynamics are bound to make India, the strategic ally of US and arch-rival of Pakistan, anything but insecure and what seems like a bizarre dig at the moment can always escalate into anything more significant given Trump’s legacy.
