Test cricket returns in Pakistan this week. This should be a moment of joy for the fans in the country. Nevertheless, following a disastrous tour to Australia and with plenty at stake; the environment in the dressing room is bound to be tense particularly for people like Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam and Yasir Shah whose careers now hang in balance.

Azhar Ali
Azhar Ali has not performed with the bat for a while now. Moreover, his style of captaincy too was criticized during Pakistan’s tour to Australia. The skipper then from a pessimistic perspective, is four bad innings away from losing his prestigious position as well as his place in the squad.
Fawad Alam
Pakistani selectors had to face massive media and public pressure to select Fawad Alam again who is all set to play his first Test match in almost a decade. Hence, the 34 year old now has no other choice but to score big in order to cement his place in the Test side as well as to prove his critics wrong. Otherwise, the age he is in; a failure is almost certain to result in ending his international career for good.
Yasir Shah
Yasir Shah too hasn’t delivered for a while now. While his performance in UAE has been brilliant over the years, he has completely failed in countries like Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Moreover, since he will be playing his first ever Test match in Pakistan; he is yet to be tested in home conditions.
So, as Test cricket returns in Pakistan; the premier leggie has to perform big as another bad series can result in him losing his spot as Pakistan’s first choice spinner.
