Arshad Nadeem – Pakistan’s only hope for a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics finished 5th in the Javelin throw competition on Saturday.

Indian Neeraj Chopra bagged gold, whereas Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesely bagged silver and bronze medals.

The 24-year-old from Mian Channu managed to send the spear to the 84.62m mark, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for him to claim gold.

Pakistanis had attached a lot of hope to the sportsman as he was doing really well in the championship. Even though he could not bag a gold medal, he definitely won the nation’s heart as he outperformed himself despite a lack of training, facilities, and support from the government.

Emotional netizens took to Twitter to laud Nadeem on his performance and for being a sport. They also thanked him for giving Pakistan “hope’ in the bleakest times and for uplifting the nation’s spirits with his positive attitude and energy.

Many of them were super proud of Arshad Nadeem for putting up a great fight against the well-trained professionals in the Javelin throw competition at Tokyo Olympics.
