A Look At PCB’s 23 Probables for The ICC World Cup

A list of PCB’s 23 probables for the ICC World Cup was announced yesterday. Selected players included Sarfraz Ahmed (captain), Abid Ali, Asif Ali, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Imam-ul-Haq, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood, Shoaib Malik, Usman Khan Shinwari and Yasir Shah.

So, here is a look at who is likely to be selected and who in the list is bound to miss the flight to England.

Those Who Are Almost Certain To Be Selected

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, eleven cricketers including Captain Sarfraz Ahmed, Abid Ali, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Usman Khan Shinwari are almost certain to be picked.

Those Who Are In With No Chance

After a poor performance against the Australians in UAE Mohammad Abbas, Shan Masood and Yasir Shah have very little choice but to blame themselves for missing out on the opportunity to represent the national side at the world cup. Mohammad Nawaz on the other hand too seems to be a backup only as he has also failed to deliver when opportunities came his way during the last couple years or so. Hence, these guys have very little if no choice of being selected for the mega event. However, an injury or two might change the scenario for any one of them.

Those Selectors Aren’t Sure About

Mohammad Rizwan, Asif Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain and Shoaib Malik then are the ones selector’s in PCB have to make a decision about. Technically, with only four places to fill Mohammad Amir and Shoaib Malik are likely to receive the nod owing to their seniority even though they are not in the best of forms.

Mohammad Hafeez too should make it if he is fit. Otherwise, Mohd. Rizwan seems to be the likely replacement after scoring 2 centuries against the Aussie boys. Faheem Ashraf, Junaid Khan and Mohd. Hasnain then will be competing for the final spot in the squad and Faheem Ashraf owing to his all-round ability is likely to be picked. Nevertheless, Hasnain’s pace can still lead to his inclusion if support staff is confident that there is still time to fine tune the teenager’s skill before the big event.
