5 Things You Should Not Say To A Photographer

Many people think that photographers are magicians who create magic with their camera gear and Photoshop with minimum effort. While they certainly create magic, infusing reality with fiction, their work by no means is easy. A creative idea, location scouting, making props, finding a model, and hours of editing- all goes behind a visually appealing picture you see on Instagram.

As photographers put a lot of effort in their work, here are 5 things you should not say to them.

1.“Can you do a free photo shoot for me?”

Professional photographers earn money through their work and are dependent on that money to pay their bills. So, never ask them for a free photo shoot. It is a job like any other job and you pay people to get your work done.

2. “Can you make me look pretty?”

Photographers do create pictures based on fictional themes but changing people’s looks is not what they do.

Softening the skin too much and changing the color of one’s skin goes against the rules of retouching. It gives an artificial look and does not look appealing. Also, in case of portraits, a natural photo is more beautiful than the heavily edited one.

3. “Do you have an expensive camera?”

Many people tend to judge photographers based on the value of the gear. An expensive camera can take clearer, sharper pictures but photography is much more than that. It is a combination of skill and technology. If you do not know how to use an expensive gear, it is of no use.

4. “Your work is so easy.”

As mentioned earlier, photography requires effort and skill like any other work. Many people think it is just a hobby and do not see it as an actual work. Avoid saying this to a photographer because it is offensive.

5. “Send all the pictures of the event immediately.”

A photographer just got done with an event shoot and you expect him/her to send photos immediately after the event? Seriously?

Photographers take hundreds of images during a shoot and they have to select which ones are actually good. Selecting the pictures, editing them and then transferring them online requires time, a lot of time.
