With the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, set to visit Pakistan on 16th February, 2020, it will be another opportunity to acknowledge Pakistan’s immense contribution towards UN’s mission for peace.
So far, around 450 women peacekeepers from Pakistan have served in various UN missions and we can only stand in awe and salute our ladies for their achievements!
UN Peacekeepers have been assisting the government in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2001. Apart from maintaining peace in the fragile state, the peacekeepers have also payed a key role in combating the outbreak of epidemics such as Ebola and more recently, measles that left hundreds of thousands of locals affected.
Pakistan remains one of the longest serving and largest contributors to the UN peacekeeping missions.
