The parents of a 13-year-old Christian girl Arzoo Raja demand justice to win back their daughter as they claim their child was abducted by a man who forced her to marry him and convert to Islam.
As per the FIR, Arzoo’s father, Raja, told police that Arzoo was kidnapped from their home in Karachi’s Railway Colony on the morning of 13th October, shortly after her parents went to work.
Police summoned the family two days later and said that the abductor, Ali Azhar, a 44-year-old Muslim, who is already married with children, showed them a certificate of marriage to Arzoo. The certificate stated the girl’s age as 18 and that she had willingly converted to Islam.
However, the family has an official birth certificate showing that Arzoo is only 13 years old.
The court sent her off with her “abductors” on the basis of “documents” produced as evidence when her parents have challenged their validity by providing official documents.
Her parents weren’t even allowed to see their daughter even in the court. Her mother fainted as she pleaded to the authorities to let her meet her child.
Father of Arzoo Raja detailed the whole incident on live TV and claimed that they were threatened by the authorities and nobody came to their help even when they had all the documents in place.
President of the National Council of Churches in Pakistan (NCCP), Bishop Azad Marshall, demanded from the government of Pakistan to take immediate notice of such incidents and provide protection and relief to their people.
“It is high time the State realizes that such incidents are not only eroding the minorities’ faith in the legal and judicial system of the country but also bringing a bad name to Pakistan,” he added.
