Minister for Climate Change, Zartaj Gul has come under fire for using her office to get her sister, Shabnam Gul, appointed as Director NACTA. The news comes at the heels of a video that went viral for Zartaj Gul’s inability to present Pakistan’s case at the UN, eloquently. The immature and clumsy behavior caught many eyes while laying bare the incompetence of the minister.
Heavily criticized for delivering an unimpressive speech, the minister hit another bump when the news of her sister’s appointment as Director NACTA came to surface, along with a letter that was officially sent by the Climate Change Ministry to NACTA to influence the appointment. Here take a look at it!
The letter led to a massive backlash on social media where many tweeted against the minister and the act of nepotism.

Following the uproar, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed Zartaj Gul to withdraw the letter, to which she issued another letter withdrawing the last one, but what is still problematic is the fact that now Zartaj Gul is blaming the media for blowing the issue out of proportion instead of accepting her wrong!

On the other hand, media has dug out another news of Punjab University explicitly disqualifying Shabnam Gul on the charges of plagiarism. Many have also brought home that for a country where terrorism is such a sensitive issue, how detrimental it can be to have incompetent people like Gul in such important places.

What is all the more alarming is the reality that the withdrawal of reference letter doesn’t mean removal of Ms. Gul from a position as significant as Director NACTA.
Zartaj Gul phones & writes a letter to Secy Interior to sifarish for sister, who is then hired. Media fuss ensues. Next a tweet comes ordering her to withdraw letter. Sifarishi letter is withdrawn with a pompous letter. PTI acts all self- righteous. But the job is not withdrawn.
As Pakistanis call out this unjust practice of nepotism, Imran Khan and co. must understand that their words carry little worth if they are not backed up by actions. Naya Pakistan making big claims and then turning out to be anything but new is the last thing the nation wants to see!
