Witty Sketch by the Idiotz

Girls’ education in Pakistan has always been at the lowest on the agenda of both the politicians and the public. With more than 40% children (between the ages of 5 and 16) out of school and 53% of these children being girls, Pakistan continues to struggle against the grappling education crisis. The situation further exacerbates when we move to smaller provinces like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where 52% of all girls aged 5-16 remain out of school. While the issue in question has remained off the spotlight for long, things seem to be changing now. One testament of that is the latest witty sketch by The Idiotz – renowned Pakistani Youtube content creators – bringing forth all that is wrong with the state of girls’ education in Pakistan in general and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular.

1. The Cause Itself!

One of the most overlooked topics even by the social media content creators, debate on the dismal state of girls’ education in Pakistan is the need of the hour if we wish to see our country prosper. Not only did team Idiotz took the initiative to spread awareness regarding the sad state of affairs but they also substantiated their argument by including facts and figures from reliable sources like Elementary and Secondary Education Department of KPK.

Also, the moment you hear one of the fathers talking about lack of schools with only 722 high-schools for girls in the whole province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other logistical hindrances, you understand why girls are deprived of education in such regions and to what extent the role a better infrastructure can play in improving the situation. That being said, one of the extraordinary features of the video is the concluding part where a solution is also suggested to bring about the change instead of just complaining. Watch the video to know what they said!

2. Witty Script and Subliminal Messaging

Usually videos with a cause tend to sound preachy but that is not the case with this sketch. Witty punchlines, perfect comic timing, subliminal messaging and exceptional acting make the video entertaining beside furthering a cause which is a great way of leaving an imprint on viewers’ minds. Cleverly done guys! Way to go!

3. No Stereotyping

Pashtun characters have to be the most stereotypically portrayed ones when it comes to humorous plots. The absence of it makes this sketch one of its kind with no derogatory jokes and wrong Urdu grammar used to sound “funny.” It reflects on the responsible approach of the team and sets a precedent for others to follow.
