Rumors from Pakistani media houses suggest that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seriously considering Rashid Latif or Shoaib Akhtar for the key post of chief selector. So, here is a look at why both gentlemen despite being brilliant former cricketers aren’t the right candidates for the job.

A Lack Of Diplomatic Skills

The chief selector’s post requires a person who before reaching a rationale decision is able to receive opinions that come from the head coach, captain and other colleagues. Moreover, the ability to remain calm under pressure is a definite prerequisite. There is no doubt that both Rashid Latif and Shoaib Akhtar are pretty straight forward individuals. Also they are among a handful of cricketers from the 90s who weren’t accused of match fixing. However, they lack the diplomatic skills as well as the temperament that is required for the job. Therefore, don’t seem to be the right candidates.

The Habit Of Dominating

A chief selector needs to take a back seat every now and then. He definitely cannot always dominate. Both star cricketers on the other hand belong to the “my way or the highway” school of thought. Hence, they are almost bound to become controversial from the word go if PCB decides to proceed with appointing any one of them.
