While Babar Azam is still performing reasonably well, it’s evident that his confidence has waned. His struggles against spinners, coupled with a diminishing ability to consistently strike the ball powerfully, have become apparent to every opposition. Given this, it seems wise to rest the former captain for at least six months. During this period, he should focus on improving his fitness with a dedicated trainer and work with a batting coach to enhance his power hitting and ability to adapt to spin bowling. This break could help him return stronger and more versatile.

Shaheen, on the other hand, remains an asset with the new and semi-new ball. However, he no longer swings the ball as effectively as he did before his injury two years ago. Additionally, he has become a liability during the death overs. Therefore, it would be beneficial for him to work with a fitness trainer and a bowling coach who can help him regain his ability to swing the ball and improve his yorker deliveries in the death overs.

It is worth mentioning that both should only be allowed to return after proving their form and fitness during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, which is set to be played later in the year. While Pakistan might endure a few losses in their absence, this decision will set the right example for other players in the setup. Additionally, it will help extend the careers of the two, who are already on the brink of losing their place in the playing XI.
