This Is How Pakistanis Responded To Imran Khan’s Call To Observe Kashmir Hour

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Imran Khan had called upon Pakistanis to stand outside their homes for half an hour, between 12:00 – 12:30 PM in solidarity with the Kashmiri people.

The Prime Minister’s call to observe – what has been dubbed as – Kashmir Hour was also widely promoted by Pakistani celebrities including Shahid Afridi, Shaan Shahid, Shahzad Roy, Hareem Farooq and Rabi Pirzada.

Despite skepticism voiced by many netizens and journalists, a huge number of Pakistanis came out of their homes to answer the Prime Minister’s call.

Spontaneous processions were observed across the country with hundreds of people participating in each.

Students from different schools were seen on the roads carrying both the Pakistani and Kashmiri flags.

Burning effigies was entirely unnecessary given that this practice poisons the air that we breathe…however, here’s a happy group of people setting an effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on fire in Islamabad…

So massive has the response been that Kashmir Hour trended worldwide at number 2 on Twitter for several hours.

While this has been a successful experiment, at least as far as creating a media spectacle goes, a lot more needs to be done at the diplomatic front to ensure that Kashmir and its people finally welcome an end to their unabated sufferings.
