Despite the fact that Pakistan is one of the three countries where polio still exists, there has been a sharp decline in the number of polio cases reported since the year 2014. A rigorous nationwide campaign with around 260,000 volunteers is underway to vaccinate 39.2 million children under the age of five. However, these sights of Pakistani polio workers going out of their way, fighting the toughest of weathers to perform their duty will make you more grateful towards these unsung heroes.

From 306 reported cases in 2014 to 12 in 2018, Pakistan has indeed come a long way in its fight against polio and the credit goes to these volunteers who work day and night to create awareness about the significance of polio immunization amongst Pakistani parents. The teams work tirelessly and around the clock to provide the vaccines to the children who are living in the most remote areas.
Pakistan is not far from reaching its goal to eradicate polio and while it has a lot to do with the cooperative attitude of parents and communities, we must take a moment to recognize the efforts of Pakistani polio workers and help create conducive working space for these people. That’s the only and the minutest of things we can do to support the countrywide polio immunization drive and ensure that polio doesn’t remain a threat for the future generations of Pakistan.
