In a program of Dunya News, PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Special Assistant to PM Nadeem Babar debated on the issue of LNG purchase which later trended on the social media with polarizing opinions.

In the program “Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Saath” both leaders stuck to their guns with the SAPM claiming that the govt bought LNG at the cheapest possible rates while the former PM Khaqan Abbasi accused Nadeem Babar of causing billions worth of loss to the exchequer. Although supporters of both parties consider their leader winner of the debate.

Speaking in the program, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said most of the gas exploration licenses were issued in our tenure but Pakistan produces very little gas. Moreover, the current government has not installed new terminals, which the country badly needs.

While responding to the question Nadeem Babar said that the previous government had collected Rs 226 billion under GIDC.

He further added that LNG was declared as petrol by the PML-N government and now Pakistan is paying $527 million per day to LNG terminals.

The program was hosted by well-known anchorperson and journalist Kamran Khan. Some people appreciated the debate culture set by Dunya news.

On the other hand, some also felt that Kamran khan was biased towards Nadeem Babar.
