Following an attack by masked suspects with alleged links to a student group backed by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students are recording their protest against Indian government nationwide.
Many students in Lahore and Karachi have come out to record their protest in solidarity with Indian students.
Students in Pakistan also raised their concerns regarding the violence at Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University where police attacked students protesting on-campus.
Outside Lahore Press Club, Progressive Students’ Collective issued a statement that said:
“The call for solidarity from JNU students and alumni has greatly resonated with the Progressive Students’ Collective and we have announced our unwavering support for our progressive counterparts in India.”
The students were of the view that they can relate to what’s happening with the Indian students as it happens in Pakistan too.
We protest in solidarity against fascism and oppression in this region. We protest because it’s 2020 & we don’t have student unions to represent 60% of Pk’s youth! Happy New Year. We protest because Alamgir Wazir is still in jail and more students are being abducted frm campuses.
According to ABP live, Delhi police has registered an FIR against the violence that took place on-campus.
What do you think of Lahore & Karachi students standing up in solidarity with Indian students.
