Federal Minister for education Shafqat Mehmood announced that all educational institutions in Pakistan will remain closed for on-campus education from 24th November till 10th January.

The country’s education ministers met in a virtual meeting, chaired by Mehmood to discuss the final decision on the closure of educational institutions, considering the rising positivity ratio.

Post the meeting, Education Minister along with SAPM Dr. Faisal Sultan addressed the nation in a press conference at the the National Operations and Command Center (NCOC) to inform them about the decisions taken at the meeting.

Before all of this happened, there was an uproar on Twitter regarding ministers decision to continue on-campus education. #CloseEducationalInstitions started trending on Twitter, demanding the closure of schools, colleges and universities. Shafqat Mehmood became the fastest trending meme on Twitter as the netizens demanded the closure of educational institutions.

Stating the facts, people of the internet pleaded the government to take a stern decision. Many of them were terribly scared, sharing that no SOPs were being followed at the institutes. And day by day cases in their vicinity were increasing. Alarming the concerned authorities, some of them even shared that they’d lost class fellows to Covid.
