Renowned columnist and journalist, Saleem Safi, recently took to Twitter and alleged that the Ehsas Program launched by the government is the biggest scam in Pakistan.

Jirga host tweeted that, “Ehsas program is becoming the biggest scam in the history of Pakistan. Look at the injustice of the PTI that in the Swat district where out of 99,000 deserving people only 86,500 have been paid. But in the South Waziristan district, only 18,000 people have been declared deserving out of which only 3 have been paid.”

Responding to the journalist Saleem Safi, head of the Ehsas program Sania Nishtar wrote that the assistance is being provided on the basis of 2010 survey.

She wrote, “These screens belong to Ehsas Emergency Cash Information Portal which has been published for transparency.” Nishtar added that, “In 8171 Scheme Category-1 and Category-2, assistance is being provided on the basis of a survey in 2010. The survey was not conducted in 2010 due to lack of law and order in North and South Waziristan.”

Sania Nishtar mentioned that in Category 3 of the 8171 scheme, the share for Waziristan in Ehsas Program is with respect to its population.

Head of the relief program told that after the identification of beneficiaries through NADRA’s Data Analytics, remittances will start by next week.

Sania Nishtar made it clear that there is no way for political interference in this relief program.

“Transparency is our top priority in this social security program,” she wrote.

On the other hand, Dr Shahbaz Gill also jumped in to defend Sania Nishtar while replying to the allegation by Saleem Safi.

While referring to Maulana Tariq Jameel’s recent sermon about lies on media, Gill wrote, “this was the lie and misrepresentation that Maulana Tariq Jameel had pointed out.”

Criticizing the journalist Gill said, “Freedom of expression does not mean that you make false accusations against anyone.”

He urged the senior anchors to take this issue to their programs just like they discussed Maulana’s statement about lies in media.

Saleem Safi took a deep dig at the former spokesperson of Punjab Chief Minister. He retorted that this argument won’t get him any job notification.

The heated argument around Ehsas program turned pretty ugly to say the least!

After exchanging a series of heated tweets with Gill, Safi finally called it quits while thanking Sania Nishtar for clearing the stance on Waziristan.
