National Assembly sessions turning into chaotic brawls has been a norm in Pakistan’s political history.

The on-going session has been no different, despite largely empty benches. Why do we even bother expecting our representatives to show-up in the Assembly anymore?

But that’s a rant for another day.

For now let’s just pointlessly gossip about how truly civil our elected representatives are…here goes!

So, on Thursday, Murad Saeed launched a rather fiery tirade against the PPP leadership.

The subject of disdain this time was the patronage that PPP allegedly gave notorious Lyari gangster, Uzair Baloch over the years.

Among other confessions – including, you know, murders, kidnapping, extortion and assaulting police officers – the once feared Kingpin also confessed that the looted money and spoils from his criminal exploits were regularly transferred to the former President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and his sister, Faryal Talpur.

The PTI leader’s speech did not go down very well with Pakistan Peoples Party’s Shazia Somro who, true to the Pakistani parliamentary tradition responded by throwing a pair of headphones at the Minister for Postal Services.

Soon enough, the video of Shazia Soomro tossing her headphones at Murad Saeed began doing rounds on Twitter.

Sadly, (and this is not sarcasm; this makes me genuinely sad!) the footage only shows Shazia Soomro throwing headphones in the direction of Murad Saeed and so it is uncertain if the headphone actually hit Mr. Minister.

However, the footage does show that the session wasn’t really going well. Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri was asking for a count of quorum and then he seemed annoyed by something happening on his left side, that is, where Shazia Somro was seated.

Of course, PTI walas were indignant!

Calls were made to “cancel her membership,” without really having much understanding of parliamentary procedures.

True that this was not the most muhazib way to react in the Parliament but if you know anything about Pakistan at all, you’d know we’ve seen worse. I mean, of course one would want their elected representatives to behave in a way that is at least somewhat civil…but I won’t hold my breath counting for it to happen.
