The dollar experienced an increase of Rs. 8 in the inter-bank market on Friday morning. With this sudden and steep rise, the exchange rate of the US dollar against Pak Rupee now stands at Rs. 142 as opposed to Rs. 134 on Thursday.
The deficit in the current account seems to be the reason for the fresh surge in the dollar rate coupled with the government’s on-going talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for an economic bailout. This continuous rise in the dollar rate is especially alarming given the fact that only one year ago, on December 1, the dollar rate against Pak Rupee had stood at Rs. 110.45.
The rise in the dollar rate against Pak Rupee has left many Pakistanis quite worried…
#Dollar 142 ka hogya or PS4 46000 ka 😭😭

There are even calls being made to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar to demand an explanation from the Minister of State for Finance Asad Umar for the dollar-rupee fiasco.
#Dollar I hope the Honourable Supreme Court Of Pakistan decides to intervene sooner than later as the inexperienced @Asad_Umar and @PTIofficial government seem totally incapable to handle this unprecedented crises.

The rising dollar rate will have direct implications for the country’s debt burden and going by early calculations, the situation seems depressingly bleak.

And while the pragmatics have their calculators out to crunch numbers following scientific formulas, there is no dearth of conspiracy theorists who are calling for an economic war and mid-term elections without really understanding what any of this means…

So grim is the mood that jest-makers have literally nothing to say. The few attempts at satire lean heavily on the dark side of the spectrum.
Look at the bright side, if our economy collapses and falls into hyper inflation then we can all be billionaires. #Dollar
