In a “unanimous” verdict given by the Indian Supreme Court today, the construction of Ram Mandir has been sanctioned on the land where the 16th century Babri Mosque once stood. What adds insult to injury for the Indian Muslim population is the fact that in 1992, Hindu extremists had demolished the historic mosque triggering nationwide riots that had in turn claimed the lives of over 1000 Muslims.

With the sharp rise in Hindu extremism in India, ossified by the recent wave of atrocities against the Kashmiri population by the Indian state and now, the Babri Mosque verdict, many Pakistanis seem to have a new-found respect for the “Two-nation Theory.”

A common theme on Pakistani Twitter today is about thanking founding fathers, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal for envisioning the importance of a separate state for the Muslims of the South Asian sub-continent.

There’s a sense of respect and gratitude for Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah that is impossible to miss if you open Twitter today.
