Pakistan hosted its first ICC event in nearly three decades, and the tournament was organized in an impressive manner, earning well-deserved credit for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The successful hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy has, in many ways, helped restore Pakistan’s cricketing reputation, dispelling the lingering shadows of the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan team.

Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals for the third consecutive ICC event, highlighting the deficiencies within the current squad. Watching other teams in action, it became evident that even on home soil, Pakistan lagged behind in both skill and fitness. At no stage did the Green Shirts resemble a championship-worthy side. This continued failure could lead to dwindling fan engagement and sponsor interest, posing a serious threat to the future of Pakistan cricket.

Addressing these shortcomings requires a thorough reassessment of Pakistan’s cricketing structure, from grassroots development to team selection and coaching strategies. The lack of a clear game plan, outdated tactics, and inconsistent performances have all contributed to the team’s struggles. To compete with the world’s best, Pakistan must prioritize player fitness, modern training methods, and a stronger domestic system that nurtures talent capable of thriving at the highest level. Without urgent reforms, the gap between Pakistan and the top teams will only widen further.
