Noor Mukadam Murder: Pakistanis Protest Conventions Resulting In Systemic Inequalities That Encourage Patriarchal Violence

Islamabad: On Sunday, the Women Democratic Front (WDF) and the Aurat Azadi March (AAM) held a protest at the Islamabad Press Club. They condemned and grieved the brutal murder of Noor Mukadam, Saima Ali, and Qurat ul Ain Buledi. The Feminists expressed condolences and solidarity with the victims’ families and friends.

Women were protesting for their lives and expressing their feelings of rage, sadness, and agony over the recent killings. WDF and AAM called for a stop to the increasing femicide in Pakistan. The protest organizers opposed the cultural, social, and structural inequalities that increase patriarchal violence in Pakistan.

WDF President Ismat Shahjahan stated, “We demand an end to state impunity against patriarchal violence. We want a complete overhaul in the very structures of the state and society that are contributing to the femicide in Pakistan.”

Members of the WDF and AAM expressed their deepest sorrow and denounced these horrific killings in the greatest terms imaginable. They expressed their heartfelt sympathy for the losses of the bereaved families and friends.

Women Democratic Front and the Aurat Azadi March also demanded a stop to victim-blaming, which allegedly promotes assaults against women. Protests will continue until the government makes a serious effort to address the structural causes of femicide.
