Yasir Hussain & Vivek Oberoi

A few days ago, at the heels of one controversy came another when Yasir Hussain once again cracked a highly inappropriate joke on Hania Aamir’s efforts to talk about body image issues. On the other side of the border, Vivek Oberoi also managed to stoop lower than one could by posting a demeaning meme as a dig at his ex and Bollywood star, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Here’s why we think that Yasir Hussain and Vivek Oberoi are two sides of the same coin!

Yasir Hussain’s Offensive “Jokes” & Reluctance To Learn…

Just a few weeks ago, Yasir Hussain was thrashed by people for making a transphobic comment on his Instagram post. On being asked why a transgender wasn’t hired for what seemed like a role of transgender, Yasir said, “matlab apko job chahiye?” (do you need this job then?). People were left infuriated by the comment and rightly so!

The actor didn’t stop there and went on to post a forced explanation that didn’t make any sense whatsoever. Just because you’re not playing one, doesn’t mean you get to crack an insensitive joke about the minority that has and continue to suffer oppression at the hands of our cruel society.

One would expect Yasir to learn from his mistake and find ways to redeem himself at least in the eyes of the audience but the guy seems to have special reluctance to learn! Almost a week ago, Yasir Hussain once again caused outrage when he made another crass comment, this time on his close friend and famous Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir.

Hania Aamir had shared her ordeal with acne and how the high beauty standards set in our society make the majority of the girls feel insecure and damage their self-esteem.

But Yasir Hussain refused to learn anything from the post and did exactly what Hania had condemned in her post. The actor referred to Hania as “Daanedar” on his Instagram story. Obviously, the comment didn’t go well with Hania who then called out Yasir in public for passing insensitive and inappropriate jokes.

A sane mind would think that Yasir might learn his lesson this time but oh no boy, he seems hell bent on not accepting his mistakes and continue to show cringe-worthy stubbornness. As a response, he instead issued the most problematic apology in the history of apologies and tried playing the victim. Here’s what the actor said in his Instagram story,

“Agar kabhi mery kisi dost ko meri koi baat yas joke bura lagy toh please mujhy foran call kary aur daanty mai post bhi foran utaar donga aur mafi bhi mangonga. Magar plz attention seekers ki tarha social media war na start kary. Thank you so called FRIENDS.”

“If any of any my friends ever feel offended by my joke, they should call me up personally and share their grievance. I will not only apologize but also take the post down. But please don’t seek attention on social media by starting an internet spat.”

We cannot begin to explain what all is wrong with Yasir Hussain’s idea of joke and his ego issues that do not let him accept his mistakes and apologize genuinely. People like Yasir who fail to differentiate between wrong and right should never be in the position of influence as they only normalize toxic masculnity in a society that already homes misogynistic mindset.

And, if we weren’t fed up of this disgusting “sense of humor”, Vivek Oberoi, across the border, posted a very sickening meme about his ex and Bollywood superstar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Vivek Oberoi’s Nasty Meme…

Yesterday, Vivek Oberoi received a strong backlash for posting a nauseating meme about Aishwarya Rai. Here’s what he posted!

The post invited anger for all the right reasons. Sonam Kapoor also took to Twitter to call out the actor.

Following the public outrage, Vivek Oberoi took down the post and like Yasir Hussain, issued a very non-apology apology, claiming that he respects women more than anyone along with blaming lack of sense of humor in others for not taking the post lightly. I MEAN WHAT EVEN!!!

Yasir Hussain & Vivek Oberoi Becoming A Definition Of Toxic Masculinity…

In the last couple of days, both Yasir Hussain & Vivek Oberoi have emerged as an emblem of toxic masculinity, misogynist values and all that is wrong with South Asian patriarchal society. Such men should not be allowed any clout and should be isolated until they learn to respect people indiscriminately.

However, sadly, the society we live in is full of such awful people and so, the likes of Yasir Hussain and Vivek Oberoi are never held accountable for their actions.

But its 2019 and we cannot let this kind of negative energy seep into the young minds! For this, we must stand up to condemn such entitled behavior both through actions and words. Otherwise, people like Yasir and Vivek will continue to fuel the fire of toxic masculinity in their respective societies.
