Naqeebullah Mehsud’s father, Mohammad Khan, passed away on Monday after a painful battle with cancer. Khan passed away at a time when he was still awaiting justice for his slain son, who had been allegedly murdered by – or at the orders of – “encounter specialist,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Rao Anwar in 2018. Ever since the tragedy hit his family, Mohammad Khan had been leading a movement to get justice for his son.

Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) declared Naqeeb innocent and indicted Rao Anwar for fake encounter earlier this year in January. But what remains a source of distress is the fact that even though he has been convicted of the crime, Anwar remains out of jail on bail.

Since the news of Mohammad Khan’s death broke, Pakistanis have come forward to lament his departure.

Rights activists and active citizens are urging Pakistan to carry Mohammad Khan’s struggles until Anwar is behind bars pay off.

The sense of grief and frustration among Pakistanis following Muhammad Khan’s demise is hard to ignore.
