Pakistan is struggling with the decision to impose complete lockdown amid the coronavirus outbreak. While the lockdown appears to be the only solution to control the spread of the deadly virus, it brings other extreme challenges.
Kamran Khan, host of Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath, took to Twitter and asked the government to show some leniency.
Editor-in-Chief for the Dunya Media Group shared that only 0.002% of Pakistan’s total population of 22 million has been affected by coronavirus.
Sharing more statistics, the journalist wrote that 96% of those who had contracted the virus experienced mild symptoms and that only 91 people had been reported dead in Pakistan so far.
He asked the government to ponder these statistics and show leniency in the lockdown protocols.
Twitterati were quick to school Kamran Khan on his relax-the-lockdown tweet.
It was pointed out that with only 60,000 tests conducted to date, Pakistan simply did not have enough data to predict how the COVID-19 trajectory would progress in the future.
People also believed that with limited resources in hand, Pakistan certainly has to learn from the experience of European countries who could have saved thousands of lives had they taken the lockdown measures timely.
There was consensus that social distancing was the only way forward to survive this pandemic.
Despite the fact that lockdown brings several other challenges with it, it remains the only solution to control the spread of the deadly virus. We’ve witnessed countries that initially didn’t take the situation seriously created a huge public health challenge for themselves.
The solution is to come up with a strategy that doesn’t leave the citizens vulnerable amid the lockdown.
