When Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) had gotten away last month by signing an agreement with the government after creating mayhem on the streets for three whole days, Pakistanis had gone into a state of shocked disbelief. Many had criticized the PTI-led government for appeasing extremists. People had especially felt betrayed given that the agreement had come at the heels of a widely cheered, fiery speech by Prime Minister Imran Khan in which he had warned the violent protesters to not challenge the writ of the state.
Many felt that the agreement had sent out an incredibly wrong signal to extremist elements, made the state look weak and left Pakistanis in a state of vulnerability.

For the last one month then, Pakistanis had been constantly demanding an answer from the government on why it had gone soft on Rizvi and co. And it wasn’t just various state ministers who were being asked to explain the government’s position vis-a-vis TLP but even the military leadership and judiciary were being questioned.
In fact only two days ago, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar while interacting with the press had been asked as to why had the judiciary been silent despite treacherous calls of murder and mutiny by TLP. The Chief Justice had given a tell-tale response.

It’s only natural then that when the news of Khadim Rizvi’s arrest became public last evening, Pakistan seemed to break into a simultaneus state of celebration.
