“Judge Arshad Malik Was Blackmailed To Convict Nawaz Sharif,” Claims Maryam Nawaz

Maryam Nawaz, in an explosive press conference in Lahore on Saturday, played a video conversation between Judge Arshad Malik and a PML-N follower.

In the video Judge Arshad Malik is heard criticizing his own verdict against Nawaz Sharif and saying that he was under duress.

In the scandalous video the judge also states that during the trial he had been taken away by two individuals who left them alone in a room and played a video of him in which he had been unknowingly taped while he engaged in “immoral” activities.

The video has not been verified independently by Bolo Jawan.

Shortly after the press conference, government’s spokesperson, Firdous Aashiq Awan also held a press conference in which she strongly condemned PML-N for alleging that the judicial process had been compromised.

She further said that taping Judge Arshad’s conversation with the PML-N supporter without his knowledge was against the law.

The video has been sent for a forensic audit.

Within minutes of Nawaz’s press conference, Pakistani Twitter exploded with a tirade of tweets from sides of the political divide.

Only a thorough forensic audit of the alleged tape will prove whether or not Maryam Nawaz’s claim regarding Judge Malik’s partiality is true. However, for now Pakistanis have enough fodder to speculate – at least for the remainder of the weekend.
