This has been an exceptionally happening week in Pakistan thanks to the elections of the Prime Minister and the Chief Ministers of the provinces. However, politics was not the only thing on Pakistan’s mind these past seven days and the top news-makers of the week came from a whole host of backgrounds.
Let’s revisit the week that was and find out who made it to the headlines and why!
Imran Khan
Khan was elected as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan this week. From his fiery speech in the Parliament to the bloopers he made at the oath-taking ceremony, both his fans and foes kept him at the top of the news all through the week.

Bilawal Bhutto
Amid deafening ruckus in the Parliament Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was only one speaker who truly commanded the attention of the entire House and that too with his maiden speech.
His Party’s performance in Sindh, where it has been in power for over a decade now might be dismal, but Bhutto’s oratory skills won over Pakistan almost unanimously.
Usman Buzdar
After 10 years of Shehbaz Sharif’s Chief Minister-ship, Punjab now has a new CM, a little known local sardar, hailing from the South, Usman Buzdar.
Although he managed to defeat Hamza Shehbaz by a thin margin of 27 votes to become the head of the province, his election has been met with extremely mixed reactions. And although he was formally elected only today, for the last two days, Pakistanis have been at loggerheads with each other over Buzdar’s nomination.

Navjot Singh Sidhu
The former Indian cricketer was the only Indian citizen invited by Imran Khan for the oath-taking ceremony who actually arrived in pakistan for the occasion. Others, including former Indian skipper Kapil Dev shied away from the invitation following immense pressure from the alt-right entities in their country.
Sidhu’s arrival met with a lot of fanfare, winning the hearts of many on both sides of the border, including, it seems, the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Zaman Bajwa.
I heartily congratulate #NavjotSinghSidhu for his bold decision to visit #Pakistan and represent India at #ImranKhan's swearing-in ceremony.
