The fifth edition of the PSL starts today and this is how the opening ceremony of the most awaited sporting event of the year went down;
The host, Ahmed Godil, was extremely underwhelming and will surely provide us with a whole lot of memes in the future.
The ceremony officially kicked off with the National Anthem.
After the national anthem, we were taken on an animated journey of all the cities involved, although it seemed like the animation was done by a high school kid, Shahzad Nawaz’s narration was quite intrusive.
God bless Fakhar e Alam who took over from Ahmed Godli and saved us all from the torture.
The stage was then taken by CM Sindh, Syed Muraad Ali Shah, President and CEO of HBL, Muhammad Aurangzaib and the Chairman of PCB, Ehsan Mani.
The first performance of the night was a Sufi Medley, performed wonderfully by Sanam Marvi, Fareed Ayaz, Abu Muhammad and Soch The Band.
The second performance of PSL 2020 was given by the household name that is Sajjad Ali.
After Sajjad Ali, Aima Baig took to the stage and I’m sorry but what a downgrade it was.
A break was necessary after Aima Baig’s performance, obviously, so the fairplay oath taking ceremony took place, with the owners and captains of teams on stage.

All the representatives were accompanied by differently able kids from Deaf Reach School Karachi and it was an excellent touch of class to involve those kids.
The performances continued after the oath taking as Abrar ul Haq brought the Chamkeeli Baraat with him and re-energized the crowd.
After the Punjabi Bhangra, It was time for some Classical Music and stepped forward the one and only, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
The ceremony was concluded with the official song of PSL 2020, ‘Tayar hein’,performed by Ali Azmat, Arif Lohar, Haroon and Asim Azhar, along with some marvelous fireworks on display.
