A few months after the September 2001 attacks on the twin towers in New York, Wall Street Journal journalist and the publication’s bureau chief for South Asia, Daniel Pearl had flown to Pakistan to investigate religious militancy. In 2002 he was kidnapped and later beheaded by terrorists in Karachi.
Pearl’s murder had been taped and the graphic video sent to the US Consulate in Karachi by the perpetrators.
Journalist Asra Nomani believes Daniel Pearl was murdered by 9/11 mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad.
At the time Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh had been the prime accused
Shortly after Pearl’s murder, British born militant, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, along with three other men had been arrested.
A lower court had found Sheikh and his accomplices guilty. While Sheikh was awarded the death sentence, the other three men had been sentenced to life imprisonment.

9 years later, Asra Nomani, a friend and colleague of Daniel Pearl had written an investigative report revealing that the wrong men had been convicted for the journalist’s murder.
In a joint report filed by Asra Nomani and a Georgetown University professor, it was claimed that it was Khalid Sheikh Mohammad – the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks and not Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh who had murdered Pearl.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, often referred to as KSM was arrested in 2003 from Pakistan and handed over to the US authorities.
KSM is currently being held at Guantanamo Bay.
Nomani’s claims were also validated by a psychologist who visited KSM in Guantanamo Bay
A US psychologist who had visited KSM in Guantanamo Bay after his meeting with the suspected terrorist had also validated claims made by Asra Nomani that Daniel Pearl had not been murdered by Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh.
As per the psychologist, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad had admitted to beheading Daniel Pearl in 2002.
