3 Things About An Otherwise Average Simmba Trailer That Have Us Interested In This Ranveer Singh Starrer

The trailer of one of the most anticipated films of the year, Ranveer Singh starrer, Simmba was finally released on Monday amid great fanfare.

The remake of a South Indian Film, Simmba traces the life of a corrupt cop, who, after facing a moral dilemma decides to stand-up against the gangsters whose interests he once served.

The trailer that is some two minutes long left no stone unturned to emphasize the fact that Simmba is an out-and-out masala entertainer.  Going by what we saw, the film promises ample injections of high octane (albeit unrealistic) action, cheesy one-liners, sizzling (though entirely unnecessary) romance and of course, drama.

Quite honestly, the trailer seemed right out of a 1980’s Bollywood film, making the viewer question Ranveer Singh’s wisdom to sign Simmba over the hundreds of other scripts that he must have rejected to clear his diary!

That said, even though the trailer left – at least – me utterly unimpressed, there is still of course a good chance that the film will score big at the box office. True, that the phase where films such as Dabangg and Singham had briefly revived the angry-young-policeman genre at the beginning of the decade is thankfully over, there is still a huge market for masala entertainers in India that cannot be written off. Thus, there’s a strong likability that against all logic, Simmba might prove to be a lucrative investment.

And while this review of the trailer is rather unflattering for the makers, there are at least three aspects that did actually manage to spike my interest in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming directorial.

Ajay Devgn’s Singham Makes an Appearance!

The Simmba trailer begins with iconic shots from Singham (also directed by Rohit Shetty), where Ajay Devgn is seen breaking things left right and center with the sheer power of his fists. The background narration in Devgn’s voice as well as the last scene patched in the trailer hint that the cinematic worlds of Singham and Simmba will crossover during the film.

Even if Devgn has the briefest of cameos, it will be enough to keep his fans as well as the fans of the Singham franchise intrigued.

Sara Ali Khan Looks All Things Adorable!

Sara Ali Khan, who is gearing for her first release, Kedernath this week will be seen again on the big screen towards the end of December as the love interest of Simmba.

That she will play an inconsequential role and serve as mere eye-candy in the film is a bygone conclusion. However, her sheer freshness adds to the film’s anticipation and will have a positive impact on the pre-release buzz around it.

Ranveer Singh’s Transition from Khilji to Simmba

Singh started the year on a high note with his awe-inspiring performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Padmaavat.

Given the intensity he brought to Khilji and the regal character of Padmaavat – the film – it will certainly be interesting to see how Ranveer Singh makes the oft-repeated routine of a bad-cop-turned-good his own.
