Why Rizwan, Shaheen & Shadab Face Career Risk in 2025
Pakistan’s ODI captain, Mohammad Rizwan, has now lost 7 out of the 9 ODIs he has led the team in this year. Having already lost his place in the T20 squad, a poor showing in the PSL could cost him not just the captaincy but also his spot in the ODI lineup altogether.

Shaheen Afridi has struggled to make an impact with both the new and old ball throughout the year. Inconsistency has plagued his performances, and with Akif Javed emerging as a strong contender, a poor PSL could very well lead to Shaheen being dropped from all formats. Notably, the selectors already seem reluctant to consider him for Test cricket in the near future.

Shadab Khan made a return to Pakistan’s T20 playing XI after a lengthy absence due to poor form, but his performance in the recently concluded T20 series in New Zealand was once again underwhelming. He has never been a consistent part of Pakistan’s first-choice Test XI, and with Abrar Ahmed and Sufyan Muqeem now solidifying their places in the limited-overs formats, Shadab finds himself in a tough spot. At this point, even a strong showing in the PSL might not be enough to secure his place in the national setup.
