Pakistan’s squad for the #CT2025 has sparked debate, with some choices raising serious questions. While the selectors have backed their preferred players, a few omissions stand out as potential mistakes. Abbas Afridi, Imam-ul-Haq, and Shadab Khan arguably deserved spots over Faheem Ashraf, Usman Khan, and Khushdil Shah, respectively. Here’s why these decisions could backfire.

Abbas Afridi Over Faheem Ashraf
Faheem Ashraf has long been given chances as a bowling all-rounder but has rarely delivered impactful performances. His recent form has been underwhelming, both with the ball and the bat. On the other hand, Abbas Afridi has consistently impressed in domestic and franchise cricket. He not only offers a wicket-taking option in the middle overs but also provides depth in batting. Given his superior performances, Abbas should have been Pakistan’s pick over Faheem.

Imam-ul-Haq Over Usman Khan
Pakistan’s batting lineup needed experience and stability, especially in high-pressure tournaments like the Champions Trophy. Imam-ul-Haq, with his solid stats and proven ability in ODIs, seemed the logical choice. His absence, particularly with Saim Ayub missing, is puzzling. Meanwhile, Usman Khan has been given multiple opportunities at the international level but has yet to justify the faith placed in him. Imam’s exclusion could hurt Pakistan if the top order struggles.

Shadab Khan Over Khushdil Shah Would Have Been A Better Choice During #CT2025
Shadab Khan’s experience and all-round skills would have provided balance to the squad. Though his form has been inconsistent, he remains a genuine match-winner. Khushdil Shah, on the other hand, has repeatedly failed to cement his place in the team despite several chances. Choosing him over Shadab might weaken Pakistan’s middle order and spin department.
