Internationally acclaimed Turkish Series Diriliş: Ertuğrul or Resurrection: Ertugul is now being aired on PTV and that too in Urdu as Ertugrul Ghazi.
With just a few episodes in, the drama serial already has Pakistanis hooked to their TV screens.
And because I too am a Pakistani, how can I not have an opinion on the series?! So here goes!
4 Things I like about Ertugrul Ghazi
1. The drama truly appears to be rich in the reconstruction of the historic details from the 12th century.
2. The description of the life and times of the characters seems true to reality. At least so far, the show holds a very convincing portrayal of the point in history that it represents.
3. The show’s production value is positively, WAH! From the magnificent castles to the deserted camps and from the costumes to the color grading; everything is spot on!
4. Frequent references to Islamic literature definitely help the characters and their plights resonate with the audiences. This is especially true for Ertugrul and Ibn Arabi.

3 Things I don’t like about Ertugrul Ghazi
1. The show is high on action – duh! Now I don’t mind watching some good, old fashioned battle sequences on my idiot box but it’s the excessive blood and gore that serves as a huge turn off for me!
2. Many scenes seem to drag on forever without an end in sight.
Each time the director shifts to an action scene or captures a 12th century journey, the show at once loses momentum.
This pace might work for older folks but someone needs to give the show a Gen Z makeover!
3. There are too many people scheming too many evil things!
Within the first few episodes, the treachery is just too much to handle. It’s especially frustrating because even when someone is aware of who the traitor might be, s/he simply chooses to ignore! Case in point, Selcan Hatun and Goruntulu.
With that being said, despite its slow pace the show is addictive. Once you’re in, there really is no going back.
If you already haven’t, I’d say give it a watch!
